The Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch CBC held on Wednesday January 3, 2018 was a great success. We had 29 participants that observed a total of 3176 individuals and 104 species. The highlights from the count were two golden eagles, a high number of Gadwalls at 16, a new high number of Blue-winged teals at 29 and a second all time high number for Northern pintails at 22. Count week birds spotted included a Swainson's hawk and an Elegant trogon. We also had one rare bird sighting of a Pacific wren. Next seasons count will be held on Thursday January 3, 2019.
